POS MALAYSIA UNVEILS SPECIAL EDITION STAMPS IN CONJUNCTION WITH 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF JOHOR’S CONSTITUTION

01 Feb 2021

KUALA LUMPUR, 26 JANUARY 2021 – The wait is almost over as the 125th Anniversary of Johor’s Constitution stamp series will be ready for purchase beginning 27 January 2021 on Pos Malaysia’s e-commerce website at www.pos.com.my/shop, 13 General Post Offices and selected post offices nationwide.

Johor was the first Malay state to adopt a constitutional system through the establishment of the state’s law of the constitution of 1895. This law was promulgated on 14 April 1895, during the reign of Sultan Abu Bakar. It was later proclaimed by Sultan Ibrahim and was amended for four times. This law has been in existence for 125 years by 2020 and remains to this day, a valid and recognised law under the Federal Constitution.

This stamp collection comes with se-tenant* stamps featuring Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor’s portrait, His Majesty’s royal seal and a partial photo of the law of the constitution which was originally written in Jawi. The face value for both stamps is RM1. The stamp sheet has 20 stamps and is obtainable at RM20 per piece.

Pos Malaysia Berhad’s Group Head of Channel Management & Customer Experience Azmil Othman Merican said, “Pos Malaysia is honoured to issue the 125th Anniversary of Johor’s Constitution stamp series which commemorates the introduction of the first-ever written constitution in the Malay Peninsular. It is our hope that this issuance will preserve this historic event and serve as a platform to educate the younger generations of our country’s history and legacy.”

Alongside the stamps, the collection will come with a miniature sheet that pays tribute to the legacy of the Johor royal rulers by featuring DYMM Sultan Sir Abu Bakar, Sultan Sir Ibrahim Al-Masyhur, Sultan Ismail, Sultan Iskandar, and most recently, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail. The Sultan Ismail building, which is the meeting location for the Johor State Legislative Assembly is shown in the background of the miniature sheet. The stamp in the miniature sheet supports the storytelling with the cover display of the Johor State’s law of the constitution of 1895 in Jawi and English.

In addition, there are 25,000 copies of First Day Covers (FDC) up for grabs and available for collection at 50 sen each while customers may get both the FDC with MS at just RM5.50 and FDC with stamps at RM2.50. Stamp collectors can cancel their MS and stamps on the FDC with the cancellation mark featuring the 125th Anniversary of Johor’s Constitution seal written in Jawi. The folder is on sale for RM6.00 apiece and available in a 1,500 quantity. The complete set can be obtained at RM39.00.

In view of the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), Pos Malaysia encourages customers to purchase the new stamp collection through Pos Malaysia’s e-commerce store on https://www.pos.com.my/shop/products/stamps.html. Customers can purchase the complete folder set, stamp sheets, miniature sheet and first day cover with stamps or miniature sheet with the cancellation mark dated 31 December 2020, which is the date of issuance.
