LOK KAWI, 16 August 2020 – Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) today, officially launched the second semi-automated distribution centre in Pos Laju Centre, Lok Kawi. The centre is one of the two Pos Malaysia’s semi-automated distribution centres in Sabah, with the other one located at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) in Kota Kinabalu.

Pos Malaysia’s Lok Kawi Pos Laju Centre was officially officiated by the Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Dr. Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek together with the Chief Executive Officer of Pos Malaysia, Mohamed Rozaidi Md Sharif with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Also present, were representatives from MCMC Sabah and employees of Pos Malaysia, Sabah.

The centre will be a mail, courier and parcel services hub for delivery to major cities in Sabah to increase processing capacity and expedite delivery to areas around Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan, Petagas, Kepayan, Kota Kinabalu Airport, Kinarut, Lok Kawi, army camps and nearby villages.

Pos Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Rozaidi Md Sharif said, “Sabah has shown a 41% increase in parcel volume from January - July 2020 as compared to the same period in 2019. In recognising the importance of eCommerce and increasing customer demand, Pos Malaysia will pursue an aggressive automation programme nationwide. The company will take proactive steps by increasing efficiency and capacity to meet customer demand and provide the best customer experience.”

“As part of our transformation plan to increase capability, capacity and efficiency, we aim to equip more processing centres in Sabah with semi-automated capabilities. This is to achieve our aim of 1 million parcel processing capacity (per day) nationwide in meeting the high and increasing demand of online purchases in tandem with the significant growth of eCommerce globally,” he added.

Pos Malaysia has completed deploying the new semi-automated sorting systems across 26 existing distributions centres in the country, which have reduced the manual workload of the support employees at the Pos Laju centres nationwide and streamlined workflow for processing efficiency.

“The group’s near-term objectives are to further enhance service efficiencies and consequently, enhance customer experience by embracing automation and digitalisation, as outlined in the Group’s 3-year strategy in modernising its value chain, business practices and infrastructure. The implementation of the semi-automated processing system in Lok Kawi is in tandem with our transformation strategy and has helped us in embracing the challenges during the unprecedented COVID-19 global pandemic which has impacted businesses worldwide,” concluded Rozaidi.
