Pos Malaysia and UNGCMYB launch country’s first SDG stamp

01 Nov 2022

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 NOVEMBER 2022 – Pos Malaysia Berhad (“Pos Malaysia”), in partnership with UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (“UNGCMYB”), today issued Malaysia’s first Sustainable Development Goals (“SDG”) special stamp collection in underlining the crucial role recycling plays in achieving a circular economy.

Themed “Kitar Semula – Ekonomi Kitaran”, the special stamp is endorsed by the Economic Planning Unit (“EPU”) of the Prime Minister’s Department, a Malaysia’s government agency that is championing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”) and taking the stewardship role in transitioning Malaysia towards a low-carbon future.

The stamps can be obtained at selected Pos Malaysia post offices and Philatelic Bureaus beginning 2 November, with the folder collection set retailing at RM38.00. Individually, the stamp and first day cover respectively will be sold at RM1.50 and RM0.50 each.

The stamp collection is centred around the concept of recycling, which is key in eliminating waste from a product’s life cycle. The act of recycling reduces the need for harvesting or producing new resources, and results in less energy consumption, less emission of harmful gases, and little to no waste generated.

UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei’s Executive Director, Faroze Nadar said, “Recycling plays a central role in helping the country achieve circular economy, which directly and indirectly contribute to the United Nation’s SDGs in realising the 2030 Agenda. At the heart of the 2030 Agenda, it seeks to tackle the five critical dimensions of People, Prosperity, Planet, Partnership and Peace, also known as the 5Ps. While recycling touches immediately on the 12th Goal of Responsible Consumption and Production, it has knock-on effects on almost all 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Pos Malaysia Berhad’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Charles Brewer said, “This is a truly amazing project for us to be part of and we are delighted to be able to partner with UNGCMYB as we aim to inspire meaningful action and encourage more Malaysians to join the recycling movement, accelerating the positive impacts of a circular economy. Pos Malaysia as an organisation that has been building trust for more than 200 years, connecting lives and businesses for a better tomorrow, and given our extensive reach and footprint in Malaysia, it is imperative that we continually renew our stewardship by championing sustainability for another 200 years.”

In support of this movement and of responsible management of the world’s forests, Pos Malaysia’s stamps, brochures and folders are made of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®)-certified materials that have been responsibly sourced. The national postal service provider also has plan to gradually switch to FSC-certified materials for other postal products in the near future.
