19 Mar 2024 06:33 pm

Pos Malaysia Berhad (“Pos Malaysia” or “the Company”), the national post and parcel service provider is at the forefront of environmental sustainability efforts as the first logistics company in Malaysia to commit to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. As part of its comprehensive sustainability roadmap, Pos Malaysia is revolutionising its delivery methods and fleet optimisation to minimise carbon footprint while maintaining efficient operations.
Pos Malaysia delivers over 324 million mail and more than 26.5 million parcels annually to more than 11 million addresses. In March 2023, Pos Malaysia launched its sustainability roadmap, outlining six key workstreams across its operations to reduce carbon footprint and promote responsible business practices. These encompass alternate delivery methods, fleet optimisation, green buildings, waste management, sustainable packaging, and digital learning.
Pos Malaysia has been progressively replacing its fleet with electric vehicles (EVs) to decarbonise its carbon footprint and setting a new standard for eco-friendly logistics practices in Malaysia. The deployment of EVs spans over 55 locations nationwide, ensuring extensive coverage for sustainable delivery services.
Specifically, 22 locations are equipped with eBikes, while 33 locations host eVans to facilitate eco-friendly parcel deliveries across the country. The company has already deployed 110 electric bikes and 143 electric vans for first and last-mile delivery, making it the largest EV fleet operator in Malaysia. As of the end of January 2023 Pos Malaysia's electric vehicles have collectively covered an impressive 700,000 kilometers, significantly contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and promoting cleaner transportation. By 2025, Pos Malaysia aims for 28% of its fleet to be green vehicles, increasing to 100% by 2030. Pos Malaysia’s decarbonisation efforts aim to contribute the reduction of emissions in the transportation industry, which account approximately 25% of Malaysia's total emissions.

Pos Malaysia's EVs boast impressive payload capacities, enabling efficient transportation of parcels while minimising environmental impact. The eBikes are capable of carrying loads of up to 150 kilograms, while the eVans can accommodate payloads of up to 1000 kilograms, ensuring versatile and reliable delivery capabilities.
The company’s fleet optimisation strategy integrates telematics to not only enhance operational efficiency but also to significantly reduce emissions and improve safety standards. Telematics refers to an advanced GPS technology utilised to track the location and movement of our vehicles in real-time, providing comprehensive insights into their operations.
Its benefits extend beyond mere tracking as telematics enables the monitoring of vehicle idling time, thereby reducing fuel consumption and subsequent emissions. By optimising routes and minimising unnecessary stops, this will contribute to a greener environment. Through detailed analysis of driver behaviour and driving patterns, telematics helps in identifying risky driving habits, promoting safer practices on the road. This not only protects the drivers but also enhances overall road safety.
Additionally, telematics provides invaluable metrics regarding vehicle utilisation, including trip duration and journey details. This data allows operations to be streamlined, ensuring optimal fleet performance and capacity management.
To bolster telematics capabilities, Pos Malaysia has established a dedicated control centre within the national mail centre, serving as a hub for vehicle tracking and monitoring activities. Currently, telematics has been installed in 100% of our heavy-duty trucks (277 vehicles) and 39% of our vans. This investment demonstrates our dedication to harnessing state-of-the-art technology to improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability throughout our operations.
Pos Malaysia's steadfast commitment to leading the charge towards a sustainable future is evident in its ongoing efforts. The company's dedication to reducing carbon emissions, adopting eco-conscious practices, and leveraging cutting-edge technology highlights its deep-seated responsibility to both the environment and the communities it serves. Through the introduction of innovative green delivery methods, optimisation of its fleet, and the cultivation of a culture of environmental stewardship, Pos Malaysia is not only diminishing its ecological impact but also setting a significant precedent for the broader logistics industry. With a firm resolve to drive positive change, Pos Malaysia demonstrates that through innovation and collaborative efforts, a brighter and more sustainable future can be forged for generations to come.
