Kuala Lumpur, Wednesday – Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) will be organising its yearly Stamp Week from the 4 till 10 December 2017. What a better way to kick-off the week with the debut of two stamp series to entice collectors and public with the issuance of two edutainment (educational and entertainment) stamp collections namely the “150 Years Straits Settlement Stamps – Permanent Issue” and “Children’s Holiday Activities” on Friday, 1 December 2017. Both issues will be on sale to stamp enthusiasts and the public on Monday, 4 December 2017.
According to Pos Malaysia’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh, the issuance of the Straits Settlement stamps is to reminisce the 150 Years of Straits Settlements Stamps used as the first stamps in Malaya. Two Philatelic products will be on sale for this series, which is the First Day Cover (FDC), priced at 55sen each, inclusive of a free brochure and a Miniature Sheet (MS) featuring a series of stamps worth RM5.00 each. The cancellation mark features the first design of the Straits Settlement Stamps surrounded by the Setem Negeri-Negeri Selat wordings.
“Indian stamps were used in all the British territory under the East India Company (EIC) before the emergence of the Straits Settlements. When Penang, Melaka and Singapore were under the direct administration of London, new stamps were introduced to indicate the new territories. Thus, the Straits Settlements stamps together with the local stamps were used on all letters sent out from British Malaya, British Borneo, Brunei, the Christmas and Cocos Islands,” said Dato’ Mohd Shukrie to the media during the stamp preview held earlier today.
“Previously, Pos Malaysia had issued other stamp-related series such as the Stamp Centenary in December 1967 as well as the 150 Years Straits Settlements Stamps – Provisional Issue in September 2017. Both FDC (20,000 pieces) and MS (25,000 pieces) are sold at RM5.85 each,” he added.
