When searching for addresses with
a 'PO Box', you may enter any of these variations:
Additionally, you may use
Wildcards.
Street
Please enter
up to 2 elements (separated by a comma)
into this field.
Use to search on its own, or in conjunction with
Premises
and/or
Town.
You may use the following abbreviations, if desired:
Example
Bishops Mews, High Street
The Close, Church Road
Additionally, you may use
Wildcards.
Town
Please enter
up to 3 elements (separated by a comma)
into this field.
Use in conjunction with
Premises and/or
Street but
never on its own.
You may enter a district, village, town, city or offshore island
name (e.g. Jersey).
TOWN always appears in capital letters. This is an important
aspect of correct addressing of mail and will help us to sort
your mail more efficiently.
Postcode Finder cannot search with just a county name in the
town field.
You may use county with town name if it is a commonly occurring
place name.
For example:
Newport, Isle of Wight
Newport, Gwent etc...
Additionally, you may use
Wildcards.
A Postcode identifies a group of
houses or addresses.
It is designed to assist with the automated sorting of mail,
and consists of the following elements:
If you wish to make an enquiry, please use the
Enquiry
Form.
Wildcards (*) are permitted if you
are unsure of the address spelling, or wish to broaden a search.
A wildcard can represent any number of characters, including
single, space and none.

To minimise large address results
being returned to the browser, certain wildcard (and non-wildcard)
combinations are NOT PERMITTED; they are as follows:
|
Wildcard at the end of a building
number in Premises (e.g. 10*). |
|
Wildcard at the start or within
the text of any Premises, Street or Town
(e.g. Man*ter, Hi*ton). |
|
Building number in Premises (without
wildcard) and Town (e.g. 10, London) |
Additionally, if a search generates
over 100 addresses, a message prompting to re-enter
will be displayed. Exceptions to this rule are:

Over 100 addresses with the
same Postcode.

Over 100 addresses on the
same Street.
English / Welsh Addresses
If an address is within Wales, two
versions of the address may be held on the database. Alternatives
will only be held when they have been verified by the Local
Authority concerned and are physically displayed on road signs.
Please note that alternative data is only available for street
names and towns.
If you are using the English/Welsh button but the data displayed
does not change, then only one version is held for that data.
The data displayed depends upon which language is shown in
bold on the language button. For instance, if a Welsh search
string is input but the language button is set to English,
then the English version of the address will be returned if
one is held on the database.
